Folster Gardens is a superior but down to earth Bed and Breakfast accommodation that is excellent value for money and just a ten minute drive from the center of Invercargill. They are more than just accommodation, they are more than a motel or hotel, they are hospitality.  They took part in the 'Quick Steps' programme run by Environment Southland, and funded by WasteNet Southland, and subsequently have made the following changes to the way they do business:

• Insulation installed upstairs and downstairs
• Planning to put in a heat transfer system to circulate heat from the  woodburner around the house
• Have set up a signed ‘recycling station’
• Researched eco-friendly cleaning options and natural alternatives and have switched to an eco-friendly product
• Planted approximately 1000 native plants
• A sustainability page has been put on the website
• Investigating a grey water system for diverting rinse water for irrigation using a solar pump
